The Hammers are refusing to lower the midfield playmaker’s £10m price tag and are yet to offer him an extension to his current contract which is due to expire in the summer of 2015.

20-year-old Morrison arrived at Upton Park from Manchester United in January 2012 in an evident bid to make a fresh start after a difficult spell with the Premier League champions.

His form has gradually improved since making the switch to East London, with Morrison having worked his way into the England U21 setup and has some fans even speculating over the possibility of him going to the World Cup in Brazil this summer with Roy Hodgson’s senior side.

Such impressive attacking displays have also seen Morrison inevitably linked with a move away from West Ham, with fellow relegation candidates Fulham reportedly keen on his signature and reports shortly prior to the opening of the January transfer window even linking him with a possible move back to Manchester United.

David Moyes’ side, whose wretched 2013/14 campaign reached a new low with Wednesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final exit at the hands of struggling Sunderland, do seem to be on the lookout for midfield new recruits this January and are in the process of completing a £37 million move to sign Chelsea’s Juan Mata.

Whether Manchester United would indeed be willing to wait until the summer to secure a potential return to Old Trafford for the controversial Morrison, however, remains to be seen.
