Aliko Dangote nearly invested in the Gunners back in 2010

The 58-year-old Nigerian expressed an interest following Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith’s proposed sale of her shares.

Arsenal’s current majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, who has interests in the NBA and NHL, plans to back the Gunners for many years to come.

Dangote, who has interests in sugar, flour and oil said: “I still hope, one day at the right price, that I will buy the team.”

“I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy.”

Dangote will bide his time

The African, who featured in Time’s Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World last year, admitted he is committed to expanding his portfolio before turning his attention to Arsenal.

“We have $16bn-worth (£10.5bn) of investments in the next few years,”

“Right now I want to take my own business to a certain level. Once I finish on that trajectory, then maybe.”

The Gunners’ other main investor, Alisher Usmanov who made his fortunes in metal and mining operations, also has a 30% share and doesn’t plan on selling anytime soon.

When asked about the current manager, Dangote admitted “Wenger needs to change his style a bit,” if the team are to become serious title contenders.

Champions League near certain

Arsenal continued their strong finish to the season, winning 3-1 win away to Hull last night, thanks to a brace from Alexis Sanchez and a first-half strike from Aaron Ramsey.

Second place is well within sight as the Emirates stadium outfit have a game in hand on Manchester City, who are currently level on 70 points.

The Gunners are also set to defend their F.A. Cup against Tim Sherwood’s Villa, after Fabian Delph’s second half winner knocked Liverpool out in the previous round.
