Location WASN’T the deciding factor
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has revealed all surrounding his move from FC Barcelona to the Emirates Stadium, and why he chose The Gunners over a potential move to Liverpool.
The Chilean was strongly linked with a move to Anfield after the Merseyside club sold Luis Suarez to the Catalan club earlier on in the Summer.
However, Brendan Rodgers missed out on signing the forward and he eventually joined Arsenal.
Alexis has been superb during his debut season in England and has settled into life at Arsenal very quickly, winning their Player of the Year award and also Facebook’s Player of the Year award.
Alexis Reveals why Arsenal
Speaking in a recent interview, the Chile international was asked why he chose Arsenal instead of Liverpool, and despite most claiming it was down to the location, the forward has dismissed those reasons.
“The reason why I moved to Arsenal is because there were a group of young players with the ambition to achieve things,” he said.
“I thought that Arsenal was the perfect club for me, the perfect club to win titles and compete in every competition.”
The 26-year-old was speaking ahead of the FA Cup Final on Saturday against Aston Villa, and he continued to comment on how the Arsenal dressing room welcomed him to England.
Dressing Room Welcome
“Yes there is a joyful atmosphere in the dressing room,” he added.
“Arsenal is a magnificent club and I hope to win many titles here. I’m going to do my very best to help the club achieve success.
“It has been a positive season but I have still got ambitions to win more.
“I would like to be closer to winning the Premier League title and get further in the Champions League.
“Every time I play I do it with the same motivation. I want the team to grow more and to compete in every competition we play.”
Praise for Wenger
Before the interview finished, Alexis had some positive words to say about manager Arsene Wenger.
“He is a legend. He is an Arsenal legend,” he said. “You learn from him every day. Sometimes we discuss about things like I would like to train more, and he doesn’t let me! But he definitely looks after me.”
