Ancelotti bemoans poor defence

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti bemoaned his side’s defensive frailties despite the club emerging from its La Liga opener with a 2-1 win over Real Betis.

Madrid were forced to come from behind against Betis, new signing Isco emerging the hero after his 86th minute winner gave Ancelotti the perfect start to his new life in Spain.

But the Italian, who, just like his predecessor Jose Mourinho,  left Spanish captain Iker Casillas on the bench, was far from satisfied with the his squad’s performance at the back, admitting there could be change ahead of the club’s next game.

“We have to improve. We created chances to score but we had problems in defence,” explained the former PSG boss.

“Today I decided to choose Diego Lopez. I don’t know who is going to play in the next game.

“I have a great squad.  Morata,  Di Maria and Casemiro made the team stronger tonight [when they came of the bench].”

However, the former AC Milan boss saved praise for young Spain international Isco.

“Isco gave it all in this game,” stated the 54-year-old. “He scored a fantastic goal.”
