Italian veteran Antonio di Natale has said that he regrets turning down Liverpool, before moving to Udinese.

The striker joined Udinese 10 years ago and is the club’s all time leading scorer with 215 goals in all competitions.

Di Natale has revealed that Liverpool came calling in 2004 and then later in 2008, when fellow countryman Andrea Dossena was signed.

Earlier in his career, Di Natale also turned down a move to Juventus.

The 37 year old explained why he stayed with the Genoa club. “I did it because this is an important club, I owe a lot to the Pozzo family who allowed me to become who I am today and to the city.

“When I left Empoli to come here [to Udinese] in 2004, there were many offers, but history and the numbers prove I was right.”

“I had a few opportunities to go abroad, but the only team I would’ve liked to play for, purely the stadium and the atmosphere, is Liverpool.”
