The Bayern Munich winger was linked with Old Trafford after the appointment of Louis van Gaal as David Moyes’ permanent successor, with the pair having worked together with both Bayern and the Holland national side.

But former Chelsea player Robben insists he won’t be leaving Germany for a return to the Premier League any time soon.

‘That’s not an option. I’m staying with Bayern Munich. Period,’ he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

‘Besides, I can’t see why Bayern would want me gone. I’ve just extended my contract and we’re happy with each other.

‘It would have been different if I wasn’t completely happy. Then I’d be up for it, I had a great time with Van Gaal at Bayern’

‘Van Gaal and [Pep] Guardiola are the best managers I’ve worked with.’

The 30-year-old is one of a number of Europe’s top players to be linked with joining United before next season, despite the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Bayern’s Toni Kroos has reportedly been rejected by Van Gaal despite a deal thought to be close to completion, but the United boss is now said to be pursuing Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas.
