Arsenal and Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on Germany international Khedira, who has turned down a new deal from Real, and the former Stuttgart star had been backed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti has always remained adamant that the industrious midfielder won’t leave for a new challenge, but it had been suggested that Arsenal and Chelsea were ready to make a final bid following Angel Di Maria’s blockbuster ÂŁ59.7million move to Manchester United.

However, it has now emerged that Bundesliga champions Bayern have contacted Real over a move for ex-Anfield man Alonso, who has just announced his retirement from international football.

Ancelotti will not let both Alonso and Khedira leave, and would rather see the German remain in Spain.

Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola wants Alonso on a short-term deal after losing Javi Martinez to a long-term injury, and with Madrid putting their faith in the midfield partnership of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, Alonso could be set for a season at the Allianz Arena.
