The Gunners have reportedly made a bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edison Cavani

The Metro cites reports in Spain that Arsenal are preparing a £35million move for the Uruguay international.

Despite PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisting the 28-year-old is going nowhere, earlier this summer, Arsenal are reportedly planning to test their resolve with a big-money offer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is believed to be in the market for a new striker to help mount a serious challenge for the Premier League this season.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates – the former Lyon forward is set to cost Arsenal a reported £45million.

However, Madrid manager Rafael Benitez recently admitted it was highly unlikely the France international would not be at the Bernabeu next season.

”He will stay with us. I can’t see any reason why he would leave. We are very happy with him” said Benitez.

Other alternatives to Benzema

Should Wenger fail to bring in either Cavani or Benzema, then it is believed he will turn his attention to Borussia Dortmund attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, any move for the Dortmund striker could prove difficult after he recently extended his deal with the club until the end of the 2019-20 season.

The 26-year-old started out at AC Milan, before several loan spells with different Ligue 1 clubs until one of those teams, Saint-Etienne, made his move permanent.

The Gabonese forward scored 37 goals in 87 games during his time in France before completing a move to Dortmund in July 2013.
