Club exercise 12-month extension option

Arsenal Football Club will extend Tomas Rosicky’s contract by a further 12-months after deciding to exercise the clause in the midfielder’s contract.

When the Czech international signed his last contract at the Emirates Stadium, a clause was inserted into the deal that allowed the club to extend his stay by a further year if they wanted to.

Arsenal Want Rosicky to Stay

Despite Rosicky‘s lack of game-time this season, the club are still keen on keeping him around as he is seen as an experienced head to help the younger players in particularly on the training ground.

Rosicky made a brief cameo on Wednesday night against Sunderland and it was expected that the last game of the season on Sunday would be his last for the North London club.

However, according to numerous reports, Arsenal have activated the extension clause and Rosicky will remain at the club for another year.

It’s likely that the midfielder will then leave on a free this time next year.

Sparta Prague Blow and Cech Influence

This news will come as a major blow to his former club Sparta Prague who were desperate to re-sign their former-hero. A group of fans even wrote to the club owner saying they will have a whip-round in order to fund the deal for the Czech to return to his boyhood club.

It seems that Arsenal are using Rosicky as bait for the Petr Cech deal from Chelsea. Rosicky and Cech have played with each other for over a decade in the national team, and The Gunners are hoping the midfielder can persuade the ‘keeper to swap clubs this Summer.
