Arsene Wenger targets defender who is out of favour in Turin

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal are plotting a bid for Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.

Italian media outlet Calciomercato claim that the Gunners have made an ‘important offer’ to the 21-year old and his representatives, in order to fight off competition from other interested parties.

Rugani finds himself down the pecking order at Juve, behind an experienced trio of Italian internationals in Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonnuci.

First team opportunities have been at a minimum for the Italy Under 21 international in recent times, which explains why he has spent the last two seasons on loan at Empoli.

Rugani is also yet to make an appearance for the Serie A champions this campaign, meaning that he could move to the Premier League for more game time.

It is a possibility that he could move to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window.
