Arsenal eyeing moves for Evans and Williams

The Gunners have enquired about the availability of the two players

Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing defenders Jonny Evans and Ashley Williams.

The two defenders have emerged as top targets for the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger currently on the lookout for a suitable replacement for Per Mertesacker, who has been sidelined with an injury.

Williams impressed for Wales during their Euros run this summer and after his performances for his country, Wenger believes the Swansea man could be a good addition to his backline.

He has also reportedly made contact with West Brom over a move for former Man United man, Jonny Evans. Evans had a relatively solid campaign for the Baggies last season and could be available on the cheap.

Advancing in their years

Both men though are advancing in their years – Jonny Evans is the younger of the two ate 28, while Ashley Williams is currently 31. However, that level of experience could massively help Arsenal’s backline in Mertesacker’s abscence if a deal is completed for either of them.

Swansea won’t be too keen on letting Williams leave though, especially after the summer he has had and would likely cost more than Evans.

West Brom would also be reluctant to sell but it would likely take a much lower offer to prise the centre-back away from the Hawthorns.
