Valencia’s head coach has claimed the defender will not be leaving the club

Arsenal may be about to miss out on Shkodran Mustafi, with Valencia head coach Pako Ayestaran claiming that the player will be staying at the club this summer.

Valencia really value Mustafi and he has emerged as one of the club’s main defenders. However, he has been pursued by Arsenal over the last few weeks and he didn’t feature for the La Liga side on Monday, which led many to believe that he was on his way.

Mustafi has £43m release clause

Ayestaran has denied his player is going anywhere though, claiming he only missed the game due to lack of fitness. He then went on to claim that the player was going to remain a Valencia player and that he was not for sale to any potential suitors.

It’s unlikely to deter Arsene Wenger though, who is understandably keen to add him to his current Gunners’ squad. The Frenchman wants to add some more defensive solidity to his side and Mustafi remains target number one for him.

It would take a large fee to land the 24-year old though, with the centre-back having a huge £43m release-clause in his current contract. But if Arsenal want to land their man, triggering that clause may be the best way to do it.
