Valencia price Vicente Guaita at £25million

Arsene Wenger’s hunt for a new goalkeeper has suffered a major blow this evening after Valencia’s president has slapped a £25million price-tag on the head of number-one Vicente Guaita.

The Arsenal boss is adamant on signing a new goalkeeper to provide serious competition for Wojciech Szczesny, but his hopes of signing Guaita seem to be over now that the president of Valencia has revealed their intentions.

Amadeo Salva has admitted that the Spanish club are not in a position where they have to sell their players if they do not want too and he has admitted that they would only consider a fee around £25million for their number-one goalkeeper.

‘Guaita is a class keeper and we have no need to sell,’ Salva was quoted as saying in Las Provincas.

‘To allow him to go, we would study the price. Currently the value is £25million (€30m). At Valencia what we want is to continue, although his agents have reported that if you are a substitute, you had better find a way out.

‘This doesn’t sit right with the board. If you do not play every week, you have to show more respect to Valencia.’

Other possible goalkeeper targets for Wenger are; Queens Park Rangers’ Julio Cesar, Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic and also Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas.
