Arsenal could land record breaking striker for a reduced fee

Napoli Striker Gonzalo Higuain is trying to force a move away from the club, in order to land a deal at a bigger establishment.

The Argentine frontman has been in inspired form this season with a staggering 38 goals in all competitions, not to mention scoring 36 in 35 Serie A games, smashing the record for goals in a single season in Italy.

Unsurprisingly, Higuain is now on the radar for many clubs, Arsenal being the latest to be linked with him, as they look to bring in some support for the out of form Olivier Giroud.

However, it is said that the release clause on Gonzalo Higuain’s contract is around £74million- a staggering amount for any club to pay for a player. However, if the player still fails to negotiate a new contract in the near future, Napoli could see him leave for a much reduced fee.

Higuain’s current contract expires in 2018, so he could be in a strong position to demand a lower asking price, with £46m thought to be his offer at the moment- still a large fee to pay for a 28 year old striker.

Arsenal, the top team thought to sign the Argentine, are definitely not known for spending huge amounts of money on playing staff- though have always been known for being ‘one or two players away from greatness’- Higuain could definitely add to the goals department and fire Arsenal to an illusive Premier League trophy.

With the player hinting at wanting to leave for pastures new, Arsenal can definitely see their chances to land him as high, as they could potentially fork out a club record transfer fee to sign him.
