Montoya will agree a 2 year loan from Barcelona
Barcelona’s Martin Montoya is to have a medical at Inter Milan this week, ahead of signing a two year loan deal.
The right back is understood to be travelling out to the San Siro today, before undergoing a medical on Thursday.
Liverpool had expressed an interest in signing Montoya as their number one right back, but instead turned their attentions on signing Nathaniel Clyne, who completed a £12.5 million transfer to Anfield today.
Arsenal meanwhile have three right backs currently in their squad: the young Spaniard Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, and Mathieu Debuchy, returning from a long term injury.
Montoya is seen as Barca’s long term replacement for Brazilian Dani Alves, who signed a new two year contract last month.
This corresponds with Montoya agreeing a two year loan rather than a season long loan, in order to get a number of games under his belt, before returning to the Nou Camp.
Montoya is another product of Barcelona’s renowned youth system, La Masia
He was limited to just twelve first team appearances in all competitions, during Barcelona’s treble winning season in 2014/15.
The 24 year old’s agent Juan De Dios Carrasco, has said that his client has reached an agreement with Inter Milan, but they are waiting for the complete go ahead from Barcelona.
“We can say that we are waiting for Barça to give the all clear for Montoya to Inter to become 100 percent,” Carrasco told calciomercato.com.
“We already have an agreement. It’s a matter of days.”
“He is ready to fly to Milan as soon as everything is closed,” Carrasco added about Montoya’s move.
“We are just waiting for Barcelona.”
Inter will reportedly pay £1 million to the Spanish champions for the loan, with a £5.5 million option to buy Montoya on a permanent basis in 2017.
