Arsene Wenger is keen on the German
Arsenal are thought to be preparing a bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender this summer, following reports that he’s been scouted by the club over the last few days.
Arsenal representatives were believed to be in Rome on Tuesday to watch Bender play for his side in their 1-0 Champions League qualifier defeat at Lazio.
With Francis Coquelin and an ageing Mikel Arteta as Arsenal’s only defensive midfield options to date, Wenger is keen to strengthen that area and a bid for Bender could be imminent.
A fee in the region of £12 million could be enough for the Bundesliga outfit to part company with their star, who has made over 200 appearances for the club.
United Interest
Manchester United are also thought to have been keen on the German this summer, however a move now looks unlikely following the surplus of midfielder’s that they now have at their disposal.
The Red Devils have recently signed both Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger from Southampton and Bayern Munich respectively.
