The Borussia Dortmund star is one of the summer’s most sought-after stars, leading to interest from the Premier League trio as well as Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, reports in Germany earlier suggested that Bayern were leading the race for Reus’ signature after already poaching Mario Goetze and Roberto Lewandowski from Jurgen Klopp’s side, with president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claiming that the player’s buyout clause will drop from ÂŁ28million to just ÂŁ20million after this season.

The comments have infuriated Dortmund, who believe that Bayern are trying to unsettle the club ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga campaign, and Reus’ agent Dirk Hebel has been quick to state that his client has not been the subject of a bid from Pep Guardiola’s side.

He told Bild: “We had no contact with Bayern.”

Speaking to Sport1, sporting director Michael Zorc admitted the club are desperate to keep hold of Reus this summer, saying: “[We will] definitely try to keep him long term.

“Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy.

“He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club.”
