Arsenal may have to wait TWO years for Draxler

Premier League side Arsenal may have missed their chance to sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler after their chairman has confirmed that he wants to keep the 20-year-old for another two seasons at least.

Clemens Tonnies, the Schalke chairman, has spoken in an interview about the whole transfer saga and he has admitted that in an ideal world, he would keep the German international at his club for at least two more seasons, which could see his price-tag rise if he keeps on improving.

The Gunners were desperate to land the German this month but were put off by the £37million asking price and eventually never made a formal bid despite their keen interest, and it now appears that January may have been their last chance in signing Draxler for a long time.

‘It would do Draxler good to spend another year or two with us,’ said Tonnies at the SpoBiS conference.

‘But we know we’re not going to be able to keep a super-talented player like Julian at Schalke forever.

‘If another club comes in for him, then we cannot block them. That would be unfair, but I think he will stay for a while yet.’

However, some good news for Arsenal is that according to Tonnies, Draxler is not keen on joining Bayern Munich.

‘I don’t think he wants to join Bayern Munich,’ he added.
