Arsenal to offer Arteta coaching role

The midfielder is out of contract this summer

Arsenal are hoping to keep Mikel Arteta at the club by offering him a coaching role, according to reports.

The midfielder is out of contract this summer and Man City and Tottenham are both eyeing moves for the Spaniard. However, both sides are believed to not want him as a player but in a coaching role instead.

The Gunners though do not want him to leave the Emirates this summer, as they want to keep as many former players on their books and in their coaching staff as possible.

Likely to end his playing career

So, Arsene Wenger is set to offer the ex-Everton man a role as a coach at the club to ensure that he does not join one of their rivals coaching teams when his contract expires.

It is likely that he would either take over a role with the Under-16 side or be given a job with the academy side.

It doesn’t seem likely though that Arteta will be carrying on with his playing career – he’s spent most of this season out injured and after picking up several knocks and injuries over the past few years, it is likely that he will call it a day on his playing career and move to the coaching side of things. He may decide to carry on but it is highly unlikely.

The 34-year old has featured just 13 times for the Gunners this season, with his most recent game coming at the end of January.
