Arsenal open talks to sign Chelsea target
Arsenal have opened talks with Ajax to sign highly rated midfielder Frenkie de Jong, with Manchester City and Chelsea also interested in the 20 year-old according to reports.
City have also supposedly spoken to the Dutch club about De Jong, who only has 18 months left on his contract in Amsterdam. He could be available for as little as ÂŁ5million.
De Jong started his career at Willem II before making the move to Ajax back in 2015. He made his first team debut last season, and also appeared in the Europa League final defeat to Manchester United.
Last season he was awarded the Jupiler League Talent of the Season, but has began featuring more regularly in the current campaign with one goal and two assists in 12 appearances.
The youngster has also been touted for a call up to the Dutch national team after recently breaking into the Under-21 side. He has featured for the Netherlands youth teams from U15 level.
Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger are said to be keen on De Jong, with Chelsea also keeping a close eye on his contract situation.
Could he be the next Premier League start from the Ajax production line?
