Here’s one out of left field. Arsenal are reportedly planning a shock transfer bid for Chelsea star David Luiz.

The Daily Express claim that the Gunners are plotting a £30m bid for the Brazilian defender.

Luiz has been injured in recent weeks and could be out for an extended amount of time as Conte has not been able to give a time frame on his return.

But prior to the injury, Luiz was dropped as Blues coach Antonio Conte preferred Andreas Christensen after Conte and Luiz had a falling out.

Now, speculation is rife with rumours suggesting luiz is on his way out although Conte insists Luiz is injured and denies transfer rumours.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking for defensive reinforcements in January and has identified Luiz as a prime candidate to bolster their defence.

The 30-year-old centre-back has also been a target for Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho as he looks to improve his squad.

Wenger rates Luiz highly due to Luiz’s ability to play as a central midfielder or in defence. Additionally he values Luiz’s experience of winning trophies. Luiz has won multiple trophies with Chelsea and with PSG.

Conte rates Christensen highly, and it seems as if the young Dane has taken Luiz’s spot in the first-team. Luiz has reportedly demanded first-team football once he’s back from injury and Conte can’t guarantee that given the Christensen’s form.

It should be an interesting January window indeed.
