Arsenal are preparing a bid for Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez according to reports in Algeria.

Arsenal wanted Mahrez last summer too but failed to meet Leicester’s asking price. But now, however, with Alexis Sanchez likely on his way out, the Gunners will go all out to sign the Algerian.

Wenger has been a long-term admirer of the Algerian star and has wanted to sign him in the past two transfer windows.

The 26-year-old won the PFA player of the year in the 2015/16 season helping Leicester to win the Premier League title.

Mahrez scored 17 goals and made 11 assists in that season which led to top clubs lining up bids form him. But, the big bids never materialised and Roma were the only club to submit an official bid. So Mahrez chose to stay and try and help Leicester in their first ever Champions League run the following season.

Last season however, Mahrez and the entire Leicester team had a slump and failed to reproduce even a glimmer of the form they had which helped them win the title.

But now, this season, Mahrez and Leicester have had a bit of a revival under new manager Claude Puel with Mahrez in particular showing signs of his quality that won him the PFA award. He has scored four goals in his last eight games and has shown glimpses of his dribbling prowess and goal-scoring talent.
