Arsenal renew interest in Winston Reid

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is set to renew his interest in West Ham defender, Winston Reid, as his defensive woes increase.

The Gunners currently have five recognised fit defenders, but there are strong fears that left-back, Kieran Gibbs, may be out for over a month after picking up an injury during their 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.

If fears are true and Gibbs is ruled out, Arsenal will be left with just; Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal as fit defenders.

Mathieu Debuchy is still out, as is Laurent Koscielny, and Wenger is desperate for January to come around, so that he can sign some defensive reinforcements, with Reid top of his list.

The Hammers centre-back was wanted by Wenger over the Summer, but after falling out of favour at Upton Park due to injury woes, a move never occured.

However, the 26-year-old is back in the first-team picture, and with his contract expiring in the Summer, Wenger has sent scouts to watch the New Zealand international.

Acording to reports, West Ham are confident they can keep hold of Reid, but Arsenal aren’t the only Premier League team interested, with Liverpool also showing interest.
