Arsene Wenger confirms Chilean won’t be back for Saturday’s game

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez won’t be fit in time to face Sunderland in Saturday’s FA Cup third round match.

The Chilean suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal‘s 1-1 draw with Norwich City back in November and was initially expected to be back fit in time for the Premier League clash with Manchester City.

However, he suffered a setback in training and was ruled out for a further three-weeks, meaning his return date was pushed back to the beginning of January.

Reports had suggested that Alexis would be fit in time for Saturday’s game after he returned to first-team training, but Wenger has confirmed that the winger won’t be playing against Sunderland.

Alexis Ruled Out

He said: “The bad news of the week is that Alexis is not quite ready.

“It is a precaution because of his hamstring, and it takes a few more days. He’s not bad but he’s not ready.”
