Gonalons, 25, was heavily tipped to join Rafa Benitez’s side earlier this season, but he ended up remaining at Lyon.
However, the midfielder recently admitted that Lyon’s financial situation may force them to cash in on him this summer and says only the will of president Jean-Michel Aulas kept him in France during the previous transfer window.
He told TMW: “I never rejected Napoli. In that operation, the final word belong to Aulas. The door remains open, however – my agent regularly speaks with [Napoli’s sporting director Riccardo] Bigon.”
Arsenal have monitored Gonalons for the past two seasons and were heavily linked with him last summer.
