Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman has revealed that Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere is very similar to his former teammate Gareth Bale.

Bale is now regarded as one of the world’s best players at Spanish giants Real Madrid and played alongside Surman when the duo were at Southampton together.

The Cherries star now believes that Wilshere has talent similar to progress just as much as the former Tottenham Hotspur ace.

“It is great and any player would tell you they want to play with the best players. It makes your job a lot easier when you are playing with players of his quality,” Surman told the Daily Echo.

“I can’t believe Jack is only 24. You can give him the ball anywhere on the pitch and he will create something.

“He glides past players and is very good technically. He also gives that calming influence to a team when he is on the ball.

“He never looks panicked or fazed and has that creative side to his game where he can create chances. That is massive for us because we have a lot of the ball and turning possession into chances is something he can do for us.

“I saw it with Gareth [Bale] when I was at Southampton. There is something about them and you can tell straight away that they are great players.

“Gareth [Bale] was only 16 or 17 when I played with him at Southampton but he was quick, powerful and unbelievably fit.

“You knew that as he developed physically, he was just going to get stronger and stronger. From a technique point of view, he had everything.

“With a lot of players like that, the only thing which can sometimes hold them back is the mental side. But Gareth [Bale] has got stronger mentality and has grown since I knew him. That has enabled him to get to the very top and to be the most expensive player in the world at one time.

“It is similar with Jack [Wilshere] and he has that ability and that technique. It is something you sometimes can’t teach players. It just comes naturally to players like them.”
