Apparently the midfielder wants to stay in La Liga

Real Madrid holding midfielder Asier Illaramendi is set to snub Liverpool for a return to his former club Real Sociedad.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the Spanish international, after rumours suggested they were close to agreeing a deal worth around ÂŁ15 million.

However, reports from the Spanish media outlet Marca claim that Illaramendi would prefer to stay in Spain rather than move to the Premier League.

A return to his boyhood club seems to be the more appealing option for the 25-year old.

Moyes ready to battle Rodgers

Illaramendi began his career at Real Sociedad before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 for ÂŁ23 million.

Despite making 59 appearances in La Liga for Madrid, it looks as if he will be out of favour during the new campaign under Rafa Benitez’s leadership.

This means that a homecoming to the club that gave him his opportunity in professional football could be more likely than ever; especially when La Real boss David Moyes can match the £15 million bid possibly made by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
