Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has issued an ultimatum to the club to match his ambitions.

Bosnian Begovic, 27, has been targeted by clubs across Europe.

Two clubs especially interested are Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal have mostly relied on youngster David Ospina this season, while Liverpool are seeking competition for Simon Mignolet.

Begovic still has one year left on his current deal at the Britannia Stadium, and he has called on the club to match his ambitions if they want him to sign any new deal.

He insists however that he is happy with life at the Potteries club.

He said : “You get to a certain age and stage in your career where you want to be part of a successful team pushing forward and we have the ambition to do that and keep the right players here, so we’ll see how it works out.

“Part of the fun of playing under Mark Hughes is that he’s trying to take the club forward. He has changed a lot of things around for us, and we’ve definitely enjoyed that. The whole structure he’s put in place will benefit everybody.

“I’ve always been very settled and satisfied here. I’ve got a year left on my contract and so I’m pretty calm with the situation. We will talk when the time is right and see if we can make it a long-term one.”
