Aston Villa have reportedly made an £8 million bid for Manchester United centre midfielder Tom Cleverley, reports the Guardian.

Paul Lambert, the Aston Villa manager is keen to recruit the England international, as he looks to bolster his young Villa squad for their Premier League campaign.

Cleverley has come under fire recently, and is one of several first team players who are set to leave, as Louis Van Gaal weilds his axe after a tough opening start for the Red Devils.

The 25 year old, who featured for Wigan Athletic on loan during the 2010/11 season, looks set to leave Old Trafford before Monday, having become somewhat of a scapegoat at Old Trafford in recent weeks.

And Lambert has been handed the funds to land the midfielder, and will hope thst the reputation of his assistant manager Roy Keane, could convince him to move to the Birmingham based club.

Spanish La Liga side Valencia have also made a bid for the midfielder, according to reports in Spain this morning.
