The Championship side are ready to take the defender on loan

Aston Villa are hopeful of sealing a deal for Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal in January.

According to reports today, the right-back could be allowed to leave the Gunners when the winter transfer window opens, with Aston Villa ready to pounce.

Villains boss Steve Bruce wants to bring the defender to the club so that he has another option in the full-back position. It’s Alan Hutton who tends to fill that role on the right but if he brings in Jenkinson, then the Englishman could step in instead.

Injury at West Ham

The 24-year old has had a rather torrid time at Arsenal. He was sent out on loan to West Ham last season but suffered an injury that left him out on the sidelines for months.

When he did return against Southampton, his performance was heavily criticised by fans, leaving the player’s morale quite low.

In addition, Hector Bellerin currently has the first-team right-back place at the Emirates Stadium, so it is highly unlikely that Jenkinson will get another run out for the club anytime soon.

Therefore, Arsene Wenger is considering letting him leave on a short-term basis and Steve Bruce is ready to take the defender off Arsenal’s hands.

It gives the player a chance to go out and get some regular gametime and potentially prove himself in the Championship and then return to the Gunners fitter, with a higher morale and hopefully having impressed the Arsenal faithful.
