Striker will be offered £70,000-a-week
Aston Villa are putting together a club record-breaking deal in order to keep hold of their star striker Christian Benteke.
Benteke has attracted a lot of attention this season and Villa boss Tim Sherwood is going to do everything in his power to keep hold of his star player.
If Sherwood is successful in persuading him to stay at Villa Park, then it will be the most anyone has been paid at Villa.
Premier League Interest
Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all linked with the player with Brendan Rodgers‘ side seemingly edging out as favourites in a bid to strengthen their side after a miserable season.
There currently is a £32.5million buy-out clause in Benteke’s current contract but Sherwood is confident that he is happy at Villa Park.
Sherwood Confident over Deal
Sherwood said: “He needs to sign a new contract. We need to offer him a new contract, which the club are prepared to do, and he needs to sign it.
“When he does we know he’s not going anywhere. I will have a chat with him. I have told him already that I want him to stay at the club.
“I’m not sure what his plans are, he didn’t tell me either way. We just tried to get the FA Cup final out the way.”
Sherwood added: “I think it is right to talk to him about the speculation and we need to put it to bed.
“We know he’s happy. It’s out there, I put it out there, he’s got a buy-out clause. If no one meets that he won’t be going anywhere.
