Griezmann could leave the Vicente Calderon this summer

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has agreed to let top scorer Antoine Griezmann leave the Vicente Calderon this summer, if a replacement is found.

Simeone, who has guided his side to second in the table so far this season, is happy to let the France international leave, with former striker Diego Costa set to return.

It is believed that the Chelsea striker will return to the Spanish capital this summer, despite having a contract with the Blues until 2019.

However, that may mean Chelsea could agree a swap deal for Griezmann and Costa, with the Blues targetting the 24-goal forward, while Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the 25-year-old.

World class

But for Atletico to part with their top scorer, their replacement would have to be a world class one, with reports suggesting Atletico could make a move for Gonzalo Higuain and Edinson Cavani.

Liverpool’s ÂŁ32.5 million flop Christian Benteke is also believed to be being watched by scouts from the Spanish capital, however, a firm interest from Simeone’s club is yet to be confirmed.

Griezmann has claimed he is happy in Spain, and will not be pushing for a move this summer. But Atletico are ready to cash in on their star man this season, with Costa heading for the exit at Stamford Bridge.

“[My career], in this moment, passes through trying to go as far as possible in the Champions League and winning the European Championship,” said Griezmann.

“I only think about that and I have no desire to leave Atletico.”

If this is to be the Frenchman’s last season in Spain, it doesn’t look to be a title-winning campaign, with Barcelona nine points clear at the top of La Liga.
