Atletico Madrid defender, Sime Vrsaljko signs a new contract extension.
The 26 year old defender’s new deal will keep him at the Spanish capital until 2022.
Sime Vrsaljko, 26 year old Right back, was said to be leaning towards a move to either Italy or England after struggling to break into the first-team in Spain this term. With Juanfran firmly keeping hold of that position, Vrsaljko looked like he was on brink of leaving the Spanish Giants in the winter transfer window.
Many Spanish reports suggested that Atleti would be willing to sell the full-back, for the right price – around £22m to £26m. Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone successfully held talks with the defender about a longer stay at the club.
Argentine boss Simeone said: “Sime is a big player and all big players have a value.
“We are happy when other clubs look at our players, this is normal and it is positive for us.
“The truth is Sime has been injured and when he has played for us he has done very well, but it is a fact that Juanfran has done superbly also.”
Sime Vrsaljko has now extended his contract with Atletico Madrid and says he looking forward to be more of a first team regular from this season and hopefully compete or maybe replace the ageing Spaniard ‘Juanfran’.
