The Gunners have no intention of selling Santi, though!

Atletico Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder, Santi Cazorla, according to reports in Spain.

Diego Simeone has tracked Cazorla over the past two-years, and failed to secure the services of the 30-year-old in January – with Atletico now set to reignite their interest in the player.

Arsenal are unwilling to let their first-choice centre midfielder leave, and manager Arsene Wenger is unlikely to budge, unless Atletico submit an ‘astronomical offer’  for Cazorla.

The La Liga side view Cazorla, who has one-year-remaining, as the ideal replacement for Turkish international Arda Turan, who is set to move onto pastures new, away from the Vicente Calderon.

And Turan’s destination could indeed by the Emirates Stadium, in a deal which could see a swap deal involving Arsenal’s number 19.

The 28-year-old has been linked with La Liga Champions, Barcelona in recent weeks, however the players agent, Ahmet Bulut, stated to Mundo Depoerivo that his client could be on the way to Arsenal.

Key performer

Since signing from Malaga in the August of 2012 for £15m, Cazorla has become one of the Gunners most reliable main-stays in his three-years, making 106 appearances, netting 23 times, and becoming a real crowd favourite at the club.

33 of those appearances came in the 2014/15 season, with Santi helping Arsenal to an FA Cup triumph.
