Aubameyang suspended by Dortmund amid Premier League interest
Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been temporarily suspended by the club for disciplinary reasons, and will miss their match against Stuttgart tonight as a result.
The 28 year-old is not happy with the club’s decision. According to reports, the Gabonese striker was punished for continually turning up late for training.
There are also rumours that he made an unsanctioned trip to Barcelona to visit former Dortmund teammate Ousmane Dembele, which the club weren’t happy about.
Last year he missed a Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon due to a similar ban after going to Milan without his employer’s permission.
“I didn’t turn up late for training,” the striker told Bild. “After my trip to Milan I could understand my suspension because I ignored an announcement that time, but this time I really don’t understand it.”
Aubameyang is often linked with a move away from BVB, and the ban could help accelerate a move with plenty of interest from the Premier League and other top European teams.
Chelsea are looking for a striker and they and Manchester City have both shown interest before. There is also the option to reunite with former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Arsenal will also be looking for attacking reinforcements in the likely event that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leave the club. This could be one to watch in January.
