Frustrated in their chase of Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona might turn their interest towards Miralem Pjanic, according to a report in the Spanish outlet Don Balon.
Ever since arriving from Roma in 2016, Pjanic has established himself as one of Juventus’ integral players.
While Coutinho remains the club’s No.1 target, having missed out on acquiring the 25-year-old last year, they have kept their options open if Liverpool refuse to sell the Brazilian, despite the playmaker handing a transfer request at Anfield.
Pjanic has been identified as an interesting prospect by Barcelona, who might offer him an initial sum of £45m. The club believes that he could be an ideal replacement for Ivan Rakitic.
Since arriving in Turin, Pjanic has represented Juventus in 43 games, and has netted seven goals.
A roadblock to the deal, however, could be Pjanic’s involvement in the Champions League, which could end up leaving him cup-tied, and eventually, unable to represent the Catalan side.
