The La Liga side are readying a bid to sign the defender

Barcelona could be set to sign Victor Lindelof from under Man United’s noses in the summer transfer window.

According to reports today, the Benfica defender has emerged as a target for Barcelona. The Catalan giants have been keeping an eye on the 22-year old in recent weeks and like what they have seen of him.

They have decided to launch a bid for him at the end of the season and want to try and tie a deal up as quickly as they can.

He won’t be cheap, with Benfica slapping a hefty fee of ÂŁ50m on his head – but it is a fee which Barcelona can afford to pay.

United then, who have been interested in Lindelof over the past few months, will have to make their move quickly too if they want to have any hope of signing him in the summer.

Strengthening the United defence

For a defender, Lindelof’s passing is tremendous and he would fit straight into United’s backline. Mourinho has recently been hoping to strengthen his defence in the and the signing of the 22-year old would certainly help.

Jose Mourinho tried to bring the defender to Old Trafford in January and made several approaches for him. However, no official bid was ever made and they decided instead that they would follow up on their interest at the end of the season.

Now though they will have rivals for his signature and the lure of Barcelona might just be enough to tempt the player into rejecting a move to England.

But, Barcelona might now snatch him from right under their noses.
