Chelsea want to tie the player down but he could have the chance to join Barcelona in the summer
Barcelona could sign Nemanja Matic in the summer, according to reports from Spain today.
The midfielder is still highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are understood to be desperate to get the player to sign a new deal with them.
Not agreed new deal
They’re willing to offer him a decent increase on his current salary in a bid to keep him at the club and are hopeful he will agree to this new contract.
However, Barcelona are believed to be contemplating a move for the 28-year old and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants have been offered the chance to sign him in the summer, with the player and his agent not yet putting pen to paper on this new deal.
Antonio Conte believes Matic is one of the main players at the club and intends to try and keep hold of his best players and then improve on the squad even more in summer to push for the Champions League next season.
But, they face losing the Serbian to Barcelona, with the La Liga side admirers of Matic. They believe the midfielder could be a good addition to their squad and that he and Sergio Busquets could easily rotate and switch when either of them needs a rest or is needed.
Chelsea though will be hoping that Matic pens this new deal – and soon.
