Barcelona star and world’s best ever player according to most people is desperate to stop versatile midfielder Sergi Roberto leaving the club.

Roberto has been linked with Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester City recently amid reports of unrest at the the Camp Nou.

Messi is known for getting involved in Barcelona’s transfer targets and has a big say on backroom matters given his status at the club. He has reportedly been against the signing of Coutinho and has reportedly voiced his concerns over other transfer targets too in the past.

Diario Gol claim that Messi has told manager Ernesto Valverde to stop Sergi Roberto from leaving the club. It’s believed Messi is adamant on keeping his teammate in the side due to Roberto’s versatility as he can play as a right-back, central midfielder, and right midfield for the Catalan club.

Roberto has been at Barcelona since he joined the youth academy in 2006 and made his senior debut in 2010.

Chelsea have been keeping an eye on the Barcelona star and could be frontrunners to sign him with the likes of former Barca stars Pedro and Cesc Fabregas at the Blues ready to persuade him.

Real Madrid, surprisingly, are also said to be after the 25-year-old and are ready to make a bid.

Roberto has a £36 million release clause and clubs are lining up bids as it’s thought to be a bargain.

Roberto’s contract runs out at the end of this season but Barcelona want to increase his release clause if Roberto does sign a new deal.
