Manchester United dealt setback

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that Thomas Muller will not leave the club at any price, despite Manchester United being prepared to pay £70.7million for the versatile attacker.

The Germany international and World Cup winner is at the top of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal’s transfer target list this summer, with the Red Devils being prepared to break a club record transfer fee for the German.

The 25-year-old was expected to leave the Allianz Arena for Old Trafford earlier in the summer transfer window after he was heavily linked with a £60million move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Sports Bild has stated that Van Gaal has asked Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward to spend the rest of his transfer reserves on the player, which is an estimated £70.7million.

However, Rummenigge spoke the German newspaper and dismissed reports claiming Muller will leave the Bundesliga champions this summer.

Not for Sale

He said: “Thomas is unsellable.

“When Thomas retires at some point, we hope that we can keep him at the club, if he wants.” he added.

United recently signed Muller’s Bayern and Germany team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger in a deal worth £14million.

The 30-year-old is one of five new signings that Van Gaal has brought into Old Trafford this summer and is still on the lookout for more ‘world-class’ stars.

Other Transfer Targets

The former Netherlands gaffer was unsuccessful in his attempts to sign centre-half Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid after Rafael Benitez, the Madrid manager, is adamant that the Spain international will remain at the Bernabeu beyond this summer.

However, Barcelona winger Pedro is close to joining the Red Devils in a deal estimated at £22million.
