Reds bracing themselves for approach from Bavarian giants

Liverpool are set to face a battle to keep charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich interested in the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

The German outfit are considering a move for the Reds manager, just 13 months after the 49-year-old arrived at Anfield, with the reigning Bundesliga champions struggling for form under manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Bayern were a dominant force during Pep Guardiola’s reign at the club, before the Spaniard moved to Manchester City this summer. However, they have yet to light up the Bundesliga under Ancelotti, with the club currently three points behind table toppers RB Leipzig.

The newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit briefly opened up a six-point gap over Bayern on Friday night, with a 4-1 win over Freiburg, before Ancelotti’s side secured a 2-1 home win against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday to reduce the gap to three.

A shock midweek Champions League defeat to Russian minnows Rostov put further pressure on Ancelotti and Liverpool will be hoping the Italian turns their fortunes around and stops the planned advances of Bayern.

Klopp is seen as a favourable option to replace Ancelotti at this current moment in time, knowing that the former Dortmund boss would bring back the energetic pressing game showcased by Guardiola.

The Reds boss has admitted in recent months that he could see himself staying at Anfield for the rest of his career, but it remains to be seen whether Bayern will test his and the club’s resilience.

Liverpool briefly returned to the top of the table on Saturday, following their 2-o win over Sunderland, and the club rewarded Klopp with a new six-year deal after just seven months of joining the club – having been hugely impressive since his arrival.
