Berahino to back down?

PFA Chief Gordon Taylor claims Berahino is to back down on his strike threat.

The striker had initially said on Twitter that he would never play under Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace again.

Tottenham chased Berahino keenly during the transfer window but West Brom rejected all approaches, to his disapproval.

The 22-year-old had been given some time off, and is due to meet with Albion officials tomorrow, but it is thought he will be back in WBA colours soon.

Taylor spoke to BBC Radio Five Live: “He will be playing. We have made contact with both the club and the player and we are very hopeful the matter will be resolved.”

Should the window be closed earlier?

Taylor called for the summer transfer window to be closed before the season gets underway.

He said: “To have the window open once the window starts has created some very frenzied activity and left a lot of good players who should have been on the pitch not playing.”

“We have fought long and hard to have players literally free. But that comes at the end of their contract and before that happens it needs two clubs to agree.”
