Chelsea striker punished for actions against Arsenal

The FA have confirmed that Chelsea striker Diego Costa will be banned for the next three-games due to his actions against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Spaniard was caught on camera slapping and scratching Laurent Koscielny before the altercation with Gabriel Paulista which saw the latter get dismissed.

Luckily for Arsenal, Gabriel’s three-game man was lifted after Arsenal appealed, but Costa has had no such luck after being banned for three games.

Costa has been charged for violent conduct, referring to his actions against Koscielny.

Statement

The FA released the following statement:

“An FA charge against Diego Costa for violent conduct not seen by the match officials but caught on video has been found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

“The Chelsea forward will, therefore, serve the standard penalty of a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

“The charge, which the player denied, was in relation to an incident involving Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny in the 43rd minute of the game on Saturday [19 September 2015].”
