Stoke City star wants out of club

Jonathan Walters has handed in an official transfer request at Stoke City.

The 31-year-old forward has been at the Britannia Stadium for five years now after joining from Championship outfit Ipswich Town, but following some high-profile signings, Walters‘ first-team status has diminished over the past two seasons.

Mark Hughes has recently signed Bojan and Ibrahim Afellay from FC Barcelona, whilst also adding Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan, leaving Walters out of the first-team picture.

Norwich Interest

Despite signing potential replacements, Stoke have so far rejected two formal bids for Walters from newly-promoted Norwich City, but after the breaking news this evening, they may be willing to part ways with him.

It’s not yet understood whether Stoke will accept the request, but it’s clear that the player wants out.

During his five years with the club, Walters had made 178 Premier League appearances, scoring 34 goals.
