Philippe Coutinho joins Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho has officially joined Barcelona after Liverpool agreed on a £142m move for Brazilian superstar.

The fees is the second highest fees in the world, after Neymar’s €222m (£197m) switch to Paris Saint-Germain but will become third when the €180m (£160m) that PSG will be paying for French forward Kylian Mbappe comes into effect this summer. It is also the biggest ever fees received by a British club, as well the highest ever paid by a Spanish club.

The 25-year-old is expected to train with his new teammates on Monday, and could be available for selection in their Copa del Rey fixture against Celta Vigo.

The biggest deal of the January transfer window materialized after months of negotiations, with multiple failed bids adding to the speculation.

Jurgen Klopp admitted that they had done all that could to keep Coutinho at Liverpool, but his mind was made.

“I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of LFC was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 per cent certain his future – and that of his family – belongs at Barcelona. It is his dream and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind”, he said.
