Defender John Stones has declared his intentions to leave Everton Football Club

The England international is widely expected to leave Goodison Park for Chelsea or Manchester United in the coming days.

Everton are reluctant to lose the 21-year-old but Stones is determined to engineer a move away and even told manager Roberto Martinez he was prepared to listen to offers.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Toffees centre-back all summer as manager Jose Mourinho searches for a long-term replacement when John Terry retires.

The Stamford Bridge club have already had three bids rejected with the most recent offer thought to be in the region of ÂŁ30million.

But, Mourinho’s desperation to land the former Barnsley defender means Chelsea are likely to table a final offer of around £36million and expect Stones to force a move through.

United monitoring Stones situation

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is also believed to be interested in signing Stones, as the Dutchman looks to bolster his defensive options.

Everton’s relationship with Chelsea seems to have turned frosty after the way in which the London-based club publicized their interest in Stones.

And, United are reportedly planning to hijack the move and offer Johnny Evans as part of the deal, who is thought to be a target for Everton.

The Old Trafford outfit have already lost out on signing Pedro, after he joined Chelsea and could be about to return the favour to their Premier League rivals.
