Wolfsburg Football Club have signed Julian Draxler from Schalke for an undisclosed fee

The Germany international’s arrival follows Kevin De Bruyne’s £55million move back to the Premier League to Manchester City.

Arsenal were rumoured to be interested in Draxler, who was open to sampling what the Premier League had to offer, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

Draxler, 21, scored two goals in 15 games last season, and was part of the Germany squad which lifted the World Cup in Brazil last summer.

Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking admitted his delight at signing Draxler and thinks he is a key signing, despite his age.

“He fits perfectly into our score of requirement and our style of play. In spite of his age, he also brings a good deal of experience to the team” said Hecking.

Draxler expressed his happiness at joining Wolfsburg and is looking forward to challenging for titles as well as playing in the Champions League.

“VfL Wolfsburg is a new challenge for me. I want to continue playing football at the very top level.

“VfL offers exceptional prospects and an extremely strong team. I am looking forward to the Champions League with VfL and I want to be playing for titles here” said Draxler.

Wolfsburg sit third in the Bundesliga after a 3-0 victory at home against Draxler’s former employers and take on newly promoted Ingolstadt following the international break.
