Board reassure manager of job

Brendan Rodgers is to remain Liverpool manager, after a meeting with the club’s co-owner Tom Werner yesterday.

Rodgers‘ future had been up in the air after a disappointing season which saw the club finish in sixth place in the Premier League, and missing out on Champions League football next season.

But as part of the club board’s end-of-season review, Werner met with Rodgers in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon, to discuss where the club are heading with regards to future plans.

Rodgers had stated previously that he would be willing to quit if the Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group, wanted him out.

Klopp Was Linked

And speculation linked Jurgen Klopp with the job after he left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season.

However, Klopp distanced himself from the Anfield hot seat, insisting that he was going to have a six-month rest

Instead, Rodgers and Werner have agreed on a ‘comprehensive plan’ with regards to targets for next season.

Rodgers was agonisingly close to bringing the title back to Merseyside for the first time in 24 years in 2014, but saw his charges eliminated in the group stages of the Champions League last term.
