Can Spurs break their Anfield shackles? 1

Tottenham go to Liverpool in a good form, but they have a miserable record at Anfield in the recent past.

Tottenham visit Anfield for Super Sunday Encounter to face Liverpool FC in full of confidence following their impressive 2-0 win over Manchester United at Wembley on Wednesday night. However, their record away to Liverpool suggests that history is not on their side as they look to climb over their hosts in the Premier League table and move back into the top four.

Spurs did beat Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley in their last encounter, but that was a rare victory for the North London club in recent years. They had failed to beat the Reds in any of their previous 10 meetings in all competitions – a sequence that includes the humiliating 5-0 humbling at White Hart Lane in December 2013 that followed up with the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

Liverpool have always had the upper hand when it comes to beating Spurs at Anfield. The last time that Spurs beat Liverpool at Anfield was in May 2011, thanks to goals from Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric as the match ended in 2-0 victory for Spurs.

The record between the two at Anfield has been particularly dominated by the home side, with Tottenham winning only two of their 25 Premier League encounters on their visits.

Pochettino must bring to an end to this bad run at Anfield if his Tottenham side are to move above Liverpool this weekend. They go into the game in a great shape after their demolition of Liverpool’s great rivals Manchester United.

LIVERPOOL vs Tottenham Hotspur – February 4 (Sunday), 2018, 4:15pm GMT.
