Cech finally speaks on future

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is considering leaving the club in the summer, after admitting that he can not face a second season as backup to Thibaut Courtois.

Cech’s Fall from Grace

Cech has been a mainstay at Chelsea since arriving from French club Rennes in 2004, with over 300 league appearances between the sticks for the Blues.

But he has fallen firmly behind Belgian Courtois in the pecking order this season, with only sporadic appearances.

And 32-year-old Cech is not relishing a battle to win back the number one spot between the sticks.

Cech Speaks

He told Czech paper Idnes: “It works with Thibaut. But I think it can work for only one season. I don’t want another season of this.

“I still have the contract for the next season so it really depends on Chelsea a lot. It is not in my hands. But it’s obvious I want to play.”

Interest in Cech

Cech, should he decide to leave Stamford Bridge after eleven years, is being targeted by Arsenal and Liverpool.

He is a two-time winner of the Premier League Golden Glove (plus once shared), awarded to the keeper with the most clean sheets in a Premier League season. He shared the award for 2013-14 with Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny, ironically a man he could well replace at the Emirates Stadium next season.
